Bitchin'. [Dec. 6th, 2005|02:54 am]
[Current Mood | cranky]
[Current Music |Train - Blind]

This entry is officially dedicated to the time-honored tradition of taking out all your troubles on a poor, innocent piece of paper. This is the entry where I will complain bitterly about everything within arm's reach. No punches will be pulled. None of the names have been changed, since nobody around here is innocent anyway. It will be alternately cutting, incisive, insightful - and rambling, off-topic, irrelevant, and of no interest. Switches will be unannounced.

It's cut, so those of you who still exist in a banal high-school mentality can conveniently skip it. )

al-Qaida's OPS officer killed in missile attack.

Hamza Rabia, believed to have become al-Qaida's operational commander after the arrest of Abu Farraj al-Libbi in northwestern Pakistan in May, ranks somewhere between third and fifth in the terror network's hierarchy, officials said.

So... fourth?

Aaaaaahhhhif-I-, were KING, of teh FOHHRAAAAAAST! [Dec. 2nd, 2005|05:28 am]
For those of you who don't know, I may end up being the ARES Emergency Coordinator for Okaloosa County here shortly. Then again, I might not, which is why this little planning document is on an flocked post. I'm letting you guys read it to make sure it sounds rational, and I'm begging for anything relevant (or non-sequitish) to be said about it.

...for those who don't have the time to read 3 pages of EOC/Emergency Prep Outlines )

lostoverethernet: I open up my web browser, and my weather thingy goes fucking nuts
lostoverethernet: "ZOMG!! SERRRVERE WETHERR!!!"
tsarkolya922: LOL
tsarkolya922: nice
tsarkolya922: what happened
lostoverethernet: well
lostoverethernet: apparently the humidity is going to be below 25% for protracted periods of time (i.e., more than 4 hours) today. And I'm just wondering...
lostoverethernet: ...how does this qualify as severe weather? What sort of precautions should I be taking? WHAT THE HELL DO I DO???
lostoverethernet: ... I mean, I know what to do for a tornado. Or hurricane. Or flash flood. Or, God forbid, METEOR STRIKE. but LOW HUMIDITY?!
tsarkolya922: hydrate!
tsarkolya922: hydrate, you bastard!
lostoverethernet: HAHAHAHAHA

Level up!!

+1 BAB
+1 FORT
+4 REFLEX
+4 WILL (totally forgot to put these on my sheet earlier :( )
+1 damage/to hit with the mindblade :D
+1d10 HP.
+5 skill points!

which comes to:

+3 Base Attack Bonus
+2 Fort, +6 Reflex, +4 Will
+7 to hit, 1d6+1 damage with the mindblade
+24+1d10 hp (:D)
+5 SP, spent with (this is beautiful)
+1 concentration, putting it at 5 ranks
+2 autohypnosis, putting -it- at 5 ranks
   synergy bonus means the following:
5+ ranks of concentration gives all autohypnosis checks a +2 bonus. +5 autohypnosis ranks gives Knowledge: Psionics a +2 synergy bonus =)

Dump the rest of the SPs into concentration, for a total:
   +8 concentration
+7 autohypnosis (which does useful things like "memorize", where I can memorize up to 800 words, sigils, scribbles - pictures, runes, etc, even if I don't understand them... "resist death" :D "resist Fear" :D )
+3 Knowledge: Psionics (this might be useful later if I multiclass, but hey -- you never know)

+4 ranks because of synergy bonuses :D

The first mindblade strike:

Attack roll: [1d20+10]; +3 base attack bonus, +7 to hit from mindblade
Damage roll: [3d6+1d8+4] for a max of 30 damage, and a minimum of 8.
[1d6+1 for mindblade, 2d6 for Psionic Weapon, 1d8 for Psychic Strike, +3 for STR]
Subsequent strikes can be
   ATK: [1d20+10]
   DMG: [1d6+1d8+4]

unless I choose to attempt to regain psionic focus as a full-round action (provokes AoO :( ), by making (you guessed it) a concentration check of DC 20, which is now attempted with [1d20+8].

At which point it's back to [3d6+1d8+4]... :D

---

I sincerely apologize to anyone who didn't know I play D&D. ;)

[Current Music |Kansas - Dust in the Wind]

If you ever think that emergency rooms cost too much, or that doctors make too much money, check out http://trauma.org . There's some interesting discussion, and a whole image gallery that ... well, suffice to say I'll be wearing my seatbelt from now on. Trauma.org is made up of trauma physicians, their esoteric medical discussions ("...massive trauma that appeared incompatible with life..."; "Aw, c'mon, Ken! Crack the chest! I wanna see what's inside!" "...I think the general consensus on this case is to go to lunch and look for someone else to save..."), advice, and pictures.

Ever wonder what it looks like to commit suicide with a radio antenna? One guy tried; they saved him. Ever wonder what a shotgun blast REALLY does at close range? They saved him, too. Hint: It's nothing like the movies. In fact, I think I'd rather take the shotgun at -close- range rather than long range; pellets everywhere are nothing to screw around with :\ They have one of those, too. Ever wonder what an L85A1 (S80) will ACTUALLY do at point-blank range? I forgot all about flash suppressor burns.

MVAs (motor vehicle accidents), with and without seatbelts. (wear your seatbelt, kids.) Various stabbings, impalements (sword through neck). Western Diamondback Rattlesnake. fasciotomy, from fingertips to biceps due to rattlesnake bite (fasciotomy: removal of the fascia. Fascia: the layer of tissue between skin and muscle). At least that story ended happily.

I feel slightly nauseous, and I have a decently strong stomach. This site is NOT for the faint of heart. I was researching for some writing (I still didn't find out what I needed to know, but the pictures are ... well, I'll never complain about overpaid doctors again.)

Excuse me; I have to go shove my stomach back down my throat.

Coloured Bubbles!! [Nov. 17th, 2005|05:54 pm]
Okay, this was just too cool to pass up. Coloured bubbles. Really.

http://www.popsci.com/popsci/science/0a03b5108e097010vgnvcm1000004eecbccdrcrd.html

As a socially concerned geek, I'm deeply concerned about the rapid decline of species, about global warming, the limping economy, political corruption, the war in Iraq and the ever-shortening attention spans of

OOH! COOL! COLORFUL BUBBLES!!
[thanks, slashdot poster, for that insight.]

UK to Passively Monitor Every Vehicle

"There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted - and you create a nation of law-breakers - and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Rearden, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with."

- Ayn Rand, "Atlas Shrugged"

Yes, yes, yes!

I just got off the phone with Sean.

He's coming home!! He'll be here for my birthday. The combined family dinner can go on as planned

... and we can start on the next chapter of our lives together.

There might be some trying times ahead in the immediate future, as we hash out what exactly we're going to do, but it can't be nearly as trying as his last month.

Hallelujah.

[Current Music |311 - Down]

Most of letter #5 is personal. But there is a funny part that I'll share.

(Dated 27 October 2005)

1016 - More hurry-up-and-wait. I'm in an exam room. I've already played with everything that looks worthwhile. Which does -not- include the computer- to use the computer in front of me, you have to insert your White Common Access Card (CAC) into the card reader. I'm fairly sure that (1) I'm not authorized, and (2) it'd set aflame the bees in someone's bonnet. The only thing worse than an angry NCO is an angry NCO wearing a hatful of burning bees.

.............

Har!! :)

I would like to know why Sean uploaded Crash into my itunes 5 times.  Wonder if he's trying to tell me something? ;)

When I say mushy stuff, I mean like when he addresses me as "Love of my life".  Like I said, I'll spare that for you guys.
